Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) event sector is growing rapidly. This has created exciting opportunities for event professionals and those seeking to develop careers in this dynamic field. Government and non-government agencies, corporations, community development bodies and cultural/arts organisations have all recognised their value as a significant means of progressing their goals. The forms these events take are many and varied and include conferences and exhibitions, seminars and workshops, sporting events, product launches, festivals and community celebrations.
This program is designed to meet this expanding demand for event professionals by equipping participants with the practical skills, industry knowledge and project management capabilities needed to lead events from concept through to delivery. Grounded in the realities and opportunities of the Papua New Guinea context, this program prepares participants to create events that are engaging, professional and impactful.
This four-day program is specifically intended for individuals that:
- need to build event management skills and knowledge quickly because of their expanded work role;
- seek to develop careers in the event management field, but currently lack the skills/knowledge to do so; or
- are currently employed in an event coordinator or event manager role and wish to ensure they are
- employing industry best practice.

What makes our courses unique?
The Executive Certificate in Event Management has been delivered to over 4000 participants in 10 countries, including Papua New Guinea where it is now in its 10th year. It is based on the texts written by its presenters which are used in colleges and universities internationally, as well as by event professionals.
Evidence of its capacity to upskill practitioners and those seeking to develop careers in the area, is reflected in both its designers’ receipt of a national award in the education and training category of the Australian Event Awards, and the appointment of Event Training Australia as a Centre of Training Excellence by the Asia Pacific Institute for Event Management.

Event Training Australia (ETA) has its origins in the recently closed Australian Event Award winning Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM), University of Technology, Sydney.
ETA was established to continue, and build upon, ACEM’s event training and education legacy. As such, ETA draws on over 20 years of experience in the development of innovative practice-based education and training programs in the event management field. These programs span one-day workshops to Masters level university courses. ETA’s understanding of ‘best practice’ event management is further reflected in its founder’s (Dr Rob Harris) co-authoring of the widely used texts and handbooks – Festival and Special Event Management, Event Management and the Regional Event Management Handbook.
ETA offers organisations the opportunity to upskill their staff involved in the planning and delivery of events through customised one or two-day workshops. These workshops deal with various aspects of the event project planning process, as well as associated areas such as risk management, sustainability planning and accessible event design. The exact content of each workshop is determined through consultation with the client organisation concerned.
